What auto-handoff looks like in use

No recording yet for auto-handoff. The repository README has the details.

Before you install

A mod is not sandboxed. It runs inside Claude Code with your permissions. This one:

  • can read Session usage and a bounded portion of the transcript
  • can write Handoff briefs
  • can write local HTML pages and logs
  • can spend Your usage allowance

Check it yourself before running it: git clone https://github.com/alexknowshtml/claude-auto-handoff && claude plugin validate ./ · MIT licensed

Install

git clone https://github.com/alexknowshtml/claude-auto-handoff.git ~/claude-auto-handoff
claude --plugin-dir ~/claude-auto-handoff

Needs Claude Code 2.1.287 or later. After installing, run /reload-plugins if the session was already open. Full install guide

What changes after installation

Instead of waiting for ordinary auto-compaction, the mod prepares a structured handoff, runs /clear and seeds a fresh session with the brief. The brief covers current work, decisions, dead ends, edited files and next steps.

A panel shows the handoff stages and before-and-after context sizes. Threshold and brief templates can be adjusted in the plugin settings.

Good to know

This repository is loaded from a local clone rather than installed through a marketplace. Automatic clearing is consequential: test with a lower threshold in a non-critical session first. Handoff summaries can omit detail, and repeated handoffs are limited by loop guards.
